Manuel Neuer Commits Future to Bayern With New 2027 Deal

Bayern Munich have extended Manuel Neuer’s contract as the club prepares a gradual transition to younger goalkeeper Jonas Urbig.

Veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has extended his stay at FC Bayern Munich after signing a new one-year contract that runs until 2027.

The German champions confirmed the extension on Friday, with Neuer set to remain at the club beyond the expiration of his previous contract this summer.

The 40-year-old said the decision followed careful consideration.

“It was a clear decision after taking some time to reflect,” Neuer stated.

“All the conditions are met here: with this team we can beat any opponent.”

Neuer is widely recognised as one of football’s greatest goalkeepers and remains the most recent player in his position to finish in the top three of the Ballon d’Or rankings after placing third in 2014 behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Reports from German outlet Bild suggested that Neuer’s role could be reduced during the 2026-27 season as Bayern prepare goalkeeper Jonas Urbig for a long-term transition.

Bayern also announced a one-year extension for reserve goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.

After retiring from international football in 2024, Neuer ended his career with Germany national football team on 124 appearances and as a World Cup winner from the 2014 tournament.

He was recently praised for his display in Bayern’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg win over Real Madrid CF, earning UEFA’s Man of the Match recognition.

Since arriving from FC Schalke 04 in 2011, Neuer has established himself as one of Bayern’s greatest players.

His achievements with the club include two Champions League trophies, six German Cups and 13 Bundesliga titles — matching the record held by teammate Thomas Müller.

Only in the 2011-12 and 2023-24 seasons did Bayern fail to win the Bundesliga during Neuer’s time at the club.
