National security is not the responsibility of government alone. Nigerians also have a duty to support lawful efforts to safeguard the nation. We must resist attempts to divide us along religious, ethnic, or political lines. Criminality has no tribe or religion, and insecurity threatens every Nigerian regardless of background.
Nigeria can no longer afford to treat national security as a subject of political convenience. The protection of lives and property is the foremost responsibility of any government, and it should remain above partisan interests, political rivalry, or sectional considerations.
The recent rescue of the teachers and students abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State after about 56 days in captivity demonstrates what is possible when governments at different levels work in harmony with security agencies. The successful operation was a product of coordination, intelligence sharing, and a common commitment to saving lives. It is a reminder that security challenges can be effectively addressed when politics gives way to patriotism.
Effective collaboration among the federal, state, and local governments is indispensable to national stability. Such synergy strengthens intelligence gathering, enhances operational efficiency, and ensures that public resources are deployed where they are most needed. When institutions cooperate rather than compete, citizens benefit from improved security and better governance.
Nigeria is richly endowed with vast arable land, forests, and abundant natural resources capable of driving economic prosperity. Yet, many farming communities have been abandoned because of terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. Farmers are unable to cultivate their land, businesses are disrupted, and rural economies continue to decline. These security failures have far-reaching consequences for food production, employment, and national development.
Security agencies must be allowed to perform their constitutional duties professionally and independently, free from political interference or partisan calculations. Decisions affecting national security should be guided by intelligence, professionalism, and the national interest—not political expediency.
A secure nation inspires confidence. Citizens who trust that their lives and property are protected are more productive, businesses are more willing to invest, and foreign investors are more likely to see Nigeria as a safe destination for investment. Likewise, tourism, commerce, and international partnerships thrive in an atmosphere of peace and stability, ultimately boosting foreign exchange earnings and economic growth.

Nigeria’s future depends on a united resolve to place national security above politics. The time has come to make patriotism—not partisanship—the guiding principle in safeguarding our nation.
