Boma Iyaye, a key ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and a top official of the NDDC, has rejected reports linking him to a potential governorship bid in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speculation had emerged suggesting Iyaye was being positioned as Wike’s preferred candidate to succeed Governor Siminalayi Fubara. However, he has firmly dismissed the claims.

“My attention has been drawn to reports… suggesting that I have declared an ambition for the office of the Governor of Rivers State and have been endorsed… I wish to respectfully clarify that these reports are inaccurate,” Iyaye said.

He stressed that he remains fully committed to his duties at the NDDC, focusing on development initiatives in the Niger Delta.

“I remain fully engaged in the discharge of my duties… to advance its mandate of sustainable development in the Niger Delta region,” he noted.

Iyaye also made it clear that no formal steps have been taken toward any political contest.

“I have not made any formal declaration regarding a governorship ambition, nor have I received any endorsement from the Honourable Minister or any other individual,” he stated.

While acknowledging Wike’s leadership, Iyaye cautioned against misinformation and urged the public to disregard unverified reports.

His statement followed comments by Wike, who recently said he has not endorsed any candidate for the upcoming governorship race.
