US maintains Iran deal possible as Trump signals no rush for agreement
US officials suggest a deal to end the Iran conflict could be reached, though negotiations are still ongoing.
The United States has said a deal with Iran remains possible to end the ongoing conflict, even as President Donald Trump warned against rushing into any agreement.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said negotiations could yield progress as early as Monday, though he cautioned against overinterpreting developments.
“We thought we might have some news last night, maybe today, I wouldn’t read too much into it,” Rubio said in New Delhi.
He added that a framework was on the table regarding the reopening of key maritime straits.
Trump, speaking on Truth Social, said he had directed his team not to “rush” negotiations, stressing that “time is on our side” and that the blockade on Iran would remain until a signed agreement is reached.
He further stated that the deal “has been largely negotiated” but still requires final approval from the United States, Iran and other parties involved.
Iranian media reports, however, indicated that several key clauses remain unsettled, including disputes over frozen assets.
The conflict, which began in February following US-Israeli attacks on Iran, has continued under a ceasefire since April 8 but still affects regional security and maritime activity.
Oil markets reacted sharply to diplomatic signals, with prices falling close to five percent on expectations of progress in negotiations.
