2027: ADC condemns Borno commissioner’s alleged threat against non-APC supporters
ADC condemns a reported threat by Borno Commissioner Sainna Buba against non-APC supporters, saying Nigerians must be free to choose their leaders in 2027.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the reported threat by Borno State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Sainna Buba, to flog individuals who decline to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 election.
The opposition party said such a statement was disturbing coming from a government official, insisting that citizens must be free to make their political choices without intimidation as the country prepares for the next general election.
ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the position known while speaking with Vanguard on the controversy.
Abdullahi urged the APC leadership to rein in members whose public comments, he said, could have a negative impact on Nigeria’s democratic process.
“APC needs to call their members to order,” he said.
He noted that the APC previously benefited from an electoral process that allowed Nigerians to freely vote against the then-incumbent government in the 2015 election.
“If PDP had behaved this way, they would not have come to power in 2015,” Abdullahi said.
The ADC spokesman further called on security agencies to intervene when public officials allegedly move beyond political advocacy into threats or intimidation.
“The security agencies too should make an example of these rascals masquerading as public servants,” he added.
