2027 Elections: APC Says Campaign Strategy Ready, Rules Out Rush to Start August 19

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is putting the finishing touches to its nationwide campaign strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The ruling party said it would soon release its detailed campaign programme, following consultations with key stakeholders and candidates.

APC spokesman Felix Morka made this known on Monday in Abuja after a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee that lasted several hours.

Morka explained that although the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed August 19, 2026, as the date campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections may legally begin, parties are not required to hold rallies on that particular day.

He said the APC was intentionally taking time to develop a coordinated campaign structure before hitting the road.

“August 19 is the date fixed by INEC for all parties to start the presidential and National Assembly campaign. There is no law that we must start on that day. The only thing is, no political party is permitted to start ahead of the day,” Morka said.

The APC publicity secretary added that the party’s final campaign schedule would be produced after consultations with stakeholders and affected candidates.

“The party is coming up with a comprehensive and well-thought-out nationwide campaign schedule after necessary consultation with critical stakeholders and affected candidates. There is no law that says we must start on Wednesday,” he said.

INEC’s revised timetable places August 19, 2026, as the official commencement of campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections ahead of the January 16, 2027 polls.

Campaigns for governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are expected to begin on September 9, 2026.

The governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.

According to the electoral guidelines, political parties and candidates must stop public campaigning 24 hours before the relevant Election Day.

The APC’s proposed nationwide campaign plan is expected to include major rallies, regional flag-off events and candidate tours across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

With the campaign window about to open, opposition parties and their candidates are also expected to intensify their mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
