Benue APC Stakeholders, Former Alia Allies Endorse Akume’s Leadership, Back Tinubu for 2027
Former allies of Benue Governor Hyacinth Alia and APC leaders have declared support for SGF George Akume and endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
Several prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, including former political allies of Governor Hyacinth Alia, have thrown their weight behind Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
The delegation, headed by former Nigerian Shippers Council Executive Secretary, Barr. Emmanuel Jime, and representing Benue’s three senatorial zones, paid a solidarity visit to Akume in Abuja to reaffirm their support.
The delegation included Douglas Pepe (SAN), Prof. Cephas Tushima, Engr. Peter Ashiekaa, Prof. USAR, Qs Beetseh, Joy Liga, Chief Nelson Alapa, Chief Patrick Idoko, Hon. David Igbosa, Comrade Austin Agbada and Hon. Dr. Msoo Igbo, among other party leaders.
According to a statement by the SGF’s media adviser, Yomi Odunuga, Akume appreciated the visit and urged party leaders to remain united in advancing the development of Benue State.
He maintained that cooperation among APC stakeholders was vital for political stability and pledged to continue promoting the interests of Benue people while working towards restoring the state’s economic strength and political influence.
Akume also urged continued support for President Bola Tinubu, saying the Renewed Hope Agenda was aimed at delivering meaningful development and improving the welfare of Nigerians.
Describing members of the delegation as experienced and valuable political leaders, the SGF dismissed suggestions that they had become politically irrelevant.
“I know that the President, in a most unprecedented manner, has pushed a lot of money to the states and the local governments. All the tiers of government have access to the Federation Account. If we can’t develop our state, it’s not Mr. President’s fault. He is doing what he is supposed to do for the country and for the states, and Benue is no exception,” he said.
Akume also appealed for reconciliation among political actors in Benue, stressing that he bore no resentment towards any individual and calling on all stakeholders to unite in support of President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Recalling his years as governor from 1999 to 2007, the SGF said his administration attracted significant investments and infrastructure projects that transformed the state’s socio-economic landscape and laid the groundwork for future development.
The gathering concluded with a unanimous endorsement of President Tinubu’s second-term ambition and a vote of confidence in Akume’s leadership. The motion was proposed by former Deputy Speaker Dan Ali and seconded by former Attorney General Barr. Joe Abaagu.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Emmanuel Jime expressed concern over what he described as the erosion of democratic principles within the APC in Benue. He appealed to Akume to help restore internal democracy, fairness and inclusiveness to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
Jime also reflected on the 2003 House of Representatives election, citing Akume’s leadership and support as evidence of his commitment to party members.
