European Giants Head to Hong Kong for Star-Studded Pre-Season Tournament
Football giants including Man City and Juventus will play pre-season matches in Hong Kong, with fans set for a thrilling tournament.
Some of Europe’s biggest football clubs are set to light up Hong Kong this summer as Manchester City, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Juventus clash in a high-profile pre-season series.
The action begins on August 1 when Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City take on Inter Milan, with prolific striker Erling Haaland expected to lead the line.
The match will open the “Hong Kong Football Festival” at the state-of-the-art Kai Tak Stadium, a 50,000-seat venue designed to withstand the city’s intense summer climate with its retractable roof and cooling system.
Chelsea and Juventus will meet on August 5 to conclude the mini-tournament.
Inter, guided by Cristian Chivu, are currently eight points clear at the top of Serie A as they pursue a 21st title, while Juventus—Italy’s most decorated club with 36 league crowns—are aiming to secure Champions League qualification under Luciano Spalletti.
Chelsea’s recent form has raised questions about manager Liam Rosenior, who replaced Enzo Maresca after last year’s Club World Cup triumph over Paris Saint-Germain. A run of five losses in six league games has left the club sixth, and their 8-2 aggregate Champions League defeat to PSG has added to the pressure.
Fans will also get up close to elite talent during open training sessions, featuring players such as Gianluigi Donnarumma, Cole Palmer, Lautaro Martínez and Dušan Vlahović.
The festival is part of a broader football showcase in Hong Kong, with Bayern Munich also set to face Aston Villa on August 7.
Last year’s pre-season matches drew packed crowds of 50,000, including clashes between Liverpool and AC Milan and a historic north London derby between Tottenham and Arsenal—the first held outside the United Kingdom.
