France vs Norway: Mbappe and Haaland Battle for Group I Supremacy

Erling Haaland says he “couldn’t care” about facing France as Norway prepare for a huge World Cup showdown with Mbappe’s side.

A blockbuster World Cup clash between France and Norway will see Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland go head-to-head on Friday with top spot in Group I at stake.

Both forwards have enjoyed explosive starts to the tournament, scoring four goals each and emerging as leading contenders for the Golden Boot behind Lionel Messi.

The decisive group-stage match will be played in Foxborough outside Boston at 2000 GMT.

France have looked dominant throughout the competition, comfortably defeating Senegal and Iraq. Thanks to a superior goal difference, Didier Deschamps’ side only need a draw to secure first place.

Norway, meanwhile, have exceeded expectations after defeating Iraq 4-1 and Senegal 3-2.

Haaland, competing in his first World Cup, has drawn praise for his fearless attacking style and confidence on football’s biggest stage.

The striker said he remains relaxed about facing France despite many considering the French side favourites to win the tournament.

“To win the World Cup, absolutely not,” Haaland told Fox television when asked about Norway’s title hopes.

“We’ve won 12 competitive games in a row now. I’m part of something special, making history, and I’m extremely proud to be Norwegian.”

He also brushed aside concerns about taking on France.

“They’re probably going to win against us, they’re probably going to win the whole tournament,” he said, adding that he “couldn’t care” about the matchup.

France have been dealing with off-field difficulties after coach Didier Deschamps left the team camp following the death of his mother.

Assistant coach Guy Stephan said the squad remains focused despite the situation.

“I am thinking a lot about Didier and his family,” Stephan said. “I am just trying to make a difficult situation as normal as possible.”

Friday’s schedule also includes Spain’s clash with Uruguay in Group H, Cape Verde’s meeting with Saudi Arabia, Egypt’s controversial showdown with Iran in Seattle, and Belgium’s crucial game against New Zealand.
