The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s performance could lead Nigerians to demand a constitutional amendment allowing him to remain in office beyond two terms.

In a birthday message marking Tinubu’s 74th anniversary, the monarch described the president as a decisive and visionary leader whose reforms are already producing results.

“Many Nigerians may call for a constitutional review to enable Tinubu to serve more than two terms in office,” Akanbi said, adding, “He is a leader who knows what he is doing.”

He noted that recent economic policies have begun to stabilise key indicators, citing exchange rate reforms, increased oil output, and growing foreign investment as signs of progress.

The monarch also pointed to what he described as a sharp increase in Nigeria’s foreign reserves, which he said rose from about $1 billion to between $49.5 billion and $50.45 billion as of early 2026.

“Tinubu has demonstrated uncommon leadership through reforms,” he said.

Akanbi further praised the administration’s push for governance reforms, particularly local government autonomy, which he said has enhanced grassroots governance.

He also commended major infrastructure initiatives, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and Sokoto-Badagry Road, describing them as vital to economic growth.

Highlighting the importance of firm leadership, he said: “You are not yet a capable leader until you take decisions and stand by them.”

The Oluwo concluded that Tinubu’s willingness to take tough decisions, unlike some past leaders, could position his administration to achieve stronger economic outcomes in the future.
