The Morocco national football team have brushed aside controversy surrounding their Africa Cup of Nations title, even as Senegal national football team pursue legal action over the decision.

Despite losing 1-0 in the final, Morocco were awarded a 3-0 win by the Confederation of African Football after Senegal players left the pitch in protest during the match.

While Senegal continue to contest the ruling, Morocco’s players and staff say their focus has shifted.

“We’re focussed on what’s to come and not getting into that (topic),” said goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

“The answer… would be what our federation said… we’re looking forwards.”

Morocco’s attention is now on preparations for the 2026 World Cup, beginning with a 1-1 friendly draw against Ecuador national football team in Madrid—new coach Mohamed Ouahbi’s first game in charge.

Supporters have largely defended the decision, insisting rules must be upheld.

“The rules are the rules… you go outside the pitch… you lose 3-0,” one fan said, while another added: “We know that we deserve it.”

For Morocco, the ruling adds to their lone previous AFCON triumph in 1976, effectively giving them “one more star” on their shirt.

Ouahbi emphasised confidence in his squad despite criticism.

“If you are a top-level team… you don’t have weaknesses. You only have strengths,” he said.

Morocco, currently on a 25-match unbeaten run in official terms, will next face Brazil national football team in a highly anticipated World Cup clash on June 13.

While legal arguments continue off the pitch, Morocco are determined to settle matters on it.
