Anambra CP Orders Closer Monitoring of Police Checkpoints, Patrol Teams
Anambra Police introduce closer monitoring of checkpoints and patrol teams as the CP moves to strengthen accountability and curb police misconduct.
AWKA — The Anambra State Police Command has stepped up its supervision of checkpoints, patrol teams and other field operations as Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, ordered operational control rooms to closely monitor police activities across the state.
The new strategy was introduced following feedback gathered during recent interactive meetings with security stakeholders across the three senatorial districts of Anambra.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the initiative was aimed at promoting effective policing and greater accountability while preventing extortion, harassment and other abuses by police personnel.
He disclosed that the operational control rooms had been directed to maintain closer oversight of police patrol formations and checkpoints.
Ikenga said Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders would be held accountable for the conduct of officers deployed to strategic locations.
He explained that complaints involving extortion, misconduct and other forms of unprofessional behaviour would be received, monitored and escalated for necessary action.
The PPRO said the command would continue to prioritise the protection of lives and property and effective security across Anambra, but stressed that officers would not be allowed to misuse the authority entrusted to them by the Nigeria Police Force.
According to him, the Commissioner had instructed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders to ensure full compliance with the new directive.
Ikenga warned that police personnel found engaging in extortion or other misconduct would be subjected to appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with the law and established regulations.
He appealed to residents to cooperate with the command by reporting incidents involving extortion, harassment or other unprofessional conduct through its official communication channels.
The Operational Control Room can be reached on 07039194332, while the Police Public Relations Officer’s line is 08039334002. The Commissioner’s dedicated WhatsApp number is 09169531886.
Ikenga reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professional, people-oriented and accountable policing, assuring residents that credible complaints would be promptly investigated and appropriate action taken.
