Barrios Injury Adds to Atletico Madrid’s Worries Ahead of Arsenal Champions League Tie
Atletico Madrid face a setback as Pablo Barrios suffers a thigh injury in their win over Athletic Club, raising doubts ahead of their Champions League tie with Arsenal.
Atletico Madrid have been hit with a potential injury setback after Pablo Barrios limped off during their 3–2 victory over Athletic Club, raising concerns ahead of their Champions League semi-final against Arsenal FC.
Barrios started the match after Diego Simeone rotated his squad, but was unable to finish the game, leaving the pitch around the hour mark due to discomfort in his left thigh. He was replaced by Johnny Cardoso.
The club confirmed the issue in an update, stating the midfielder experienced muscular discomfort and will undergo further assessment. His availability for both legs against Arsenal is now in doubt.
Simeone is also awaiting updates on Ademola Lookman, who is still recovering from an injury picked up in the Copa del Rey final loss to Real Sociedad.
There was a boost for Atletico, however, as Alexander Sørloth made a strong return from injury, scoring twice to reach 19 goals in 49 matches this season.
Elsewhere, Marcos Llorente, Koke, and Antoine Griezmann were among the scorers before being substituted, while Julián Álvarez was rested ahead of upcoming fixtures.
