ENUGU — Tension reportedly arose at St. Anthony Catholic Church, New GRA, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, on Sunday after Rev. Fr. Valentine Chimaobi Nwajiagu was allegedly attacked by Sir Iyke Nwatakwocha, a member of the Knights of St. John International.

The incident was said to have taken place shortly after the 6 a.m. Mass, which Nwajiagu attended as part of a priestly exchange programme at the parish.

Nwajiagu is the Assistant Parish Priest of Assumption Catholic Church, Nkwo Nike, Enugu State.

According to sources, Nwatakwocha allegedly confronted the priest, damaged his vehicle and threatened some worshippers who attempted to intervene.

The motive behind the alleged confrontation remained unclear as of the time this report was filed.

Some worshippers, however, alleged that the same individual had confronted Nwajiagu earlier in the year at his parish, expressing concern that a similar incident had reportedly happened again.

The worshippers urged the Catholic Diocese of Enugu to thoroughly investigate the matter and take measures to prevent any future confrontation involving the priest.

The allegations had not been independently verified as of press time.

Attempts to obtain comments from Rev. Fr. Nwajiagu, Sir Iyke Nwatakwocha, the Knights of St. John International and the Catholic Diocese of Enugu were still ongoing at the time of filing this report.
