Khamenei Says US, Israel Trying to Destabilise Iran
Khamenei says the United States and Israel are seeking to create divisions in Iran to “bring the nation to its knees” following regional conflict.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has alleged that the United States and Israel are working to undermine and weaken Iran through political, economic, and propaganda pressure.
Speaking through a written statement aired on state television Thursday, Khamenei claimed the two countries were seeking to create instability and division within the Islamic republic.
“The enemy’s blind plan, after the imposed war, the economic pressure, and the political and propaganda siege, is to create divisions and disintegration in order to compensate for military defeats and bring the nation to its knees,” he said.
The statement coincided with the anniversary of the founding of Iran’s national legislature, with Khamenei calling on Iranians to remain united and preserve national “cohesion.”
Mojtaba Khamenei became supreme leader in March after the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, who was killed on February 28 in the initial US-Israeli attacks on Iran that ignited conflict across the region.
Since taking office, the 56-year-old leader has not made any public appearances.
