Oyedepo Advises Youth to Shun Sports Betting, Says Hard Work Brings Lasting Success

Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, has advised young Nigerians against viewing sports betting as a shortcut to wealth, encouraging them instead to embrace diligence and perseverance.

Speaking during Sunday’s sermon, Oyedepo warned that betting could divert young people from achieving their full potential, insisting that enduring financial success is built through honest effort rather than gambling.

“Young people, naija bet is not the way to financial fortune. Stop wasting your destiny, stop wasting your time. I have never been once deceived. Stop!” he said.

The renowned preacher noted that while progress may sometimes appear slow, those who remain steadfast on the right path will eventually succeed.

“Things may be slow, but it is sure,” he added.

Oyedepo also shared a personal testimony, recalling that he gifted a car to the woman who led him to Christ when he was 15 years old, describing it as an expression of gratitude many years later.

“My mother of faith led me to Christ at 15. When I turned 60, I got her a car that they took to her place in the U.S, she wept. You had better wake up,” he said.

The comments come as concerns continue to grow over the increasing participation of young Nigerians in sports betting, with many religious and community leaders warning about the potential financial and social consequences.
