PFIPC Probe: House Panel Summons Accountant-General Over Controversial N1.32bn Budget

The House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) is set to question the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, on Monday over the agency’s inclusion in the 2026 federal budget.

The committee, led by Yusuf Gagdi, is examining how the PFIPC, which the Federal Government has described as a non-existent agency, allegedly obtained office accommodation at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja and received over N1.32 billion in the 2026 Appropriation Act.

A key focus of the hearing will be how the council secured an official government budget code that facilitated its budgetary allocation.

In the course of the investigation, lawmakers have already heard from the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, the CBN’s Director of Banking Services, Abdullahi Hamisu, and the Director-General of the Budget Office, Tanimu Yakubu.

The probe attracted wider public attention after the arrest of Adeyemi Adeniyi, who allegedly impersonated the PFIPC’s Director-General and claimed he paid N400 million through an intermediary to the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to obtain the position.

The Presidency and Gbajabiamila have denied any association with Adeniyi, insisting he is an impostor and disassociating themselves from the alleged agency.

The committee is also expected to invite additional top government officials, including Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Taiwo Oyedele, and Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi, as it continues its investigation into the matter.
