PFN Opposes Muslim-Muslim Ticket for 2027, Warns Against Religious Imbalance
PFN says it does not support a Muslim-Muslim ticket for elective offices, urging inclusive leadership and constitutional protection of religious freedom ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has opposed the adoption of a Muslim-Muslim ticket for elective offices ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that Nigeria’s religious and ethnic diversity should be adequately represented in political leadership.
The statement comes after the All Progressives Congress (APC) endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, both Muslims, to seek re-election in 2027.
In a communiqué issued after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, signed by National Publicity Secretary Dr. Sylvanus Ukafia, the PFN reiterated its commitment to national unity, peace and constitutional democracy.
The fellowship stated: “The PFN does not support the adoption of a Muslim-Muslim ticket for elective public office. Nigeria is a multi-religious and multi-ethnic nation whose diversity should be reflected in its leadership. Inclusive governance promotes national unity, mutual trust, and a sense of belonging among all citizens.”
The Christian organisation maintained that justice, equity, respect for the Constitution and the rule of law remain essential for Nigeria’s development.
Addressing reports of a proposed law to regulate Christian preaching, the PFN said it strongly opposes any legislation that seeks to ban or excessively restrict Christian evangelism, arguing that such measures conflict with constitutional guarantees of freedom of religion, conscience, expression and peaceful assembly.
The statement added: “While the PFN supports lawful regulation necessary to preserve public order, such regulation must never become an instrument for suppressing legitimate religious expression or infringing upon fundamental human rights.”
The fellowship urged governments across the country to uphold constitutional rights and ensure that no legislation discriminates against any religious group.
It also encouraged Christians to remain peaceful and responsible while exercising their constitutional rights, urging continuous dialogue among government officials, religious leaders and civil society to preserve Nigeria’s unity and diversity.
Finally, the PFN reaffirmed its commitment to praying for the nation and collaborating with stakeholders to promote peace, justice and equal protection for all Nigerians.
