Tafawa Balewa Deserves Better: Time To End The Politics Of Neglect -By Patience Ilya

Tafawa Balewa is not asking for special treatment. Its people are asking for the basic infrastructure and services they deserve. Their concerns should be heard, investigated and addressed. Development should not be selective, and the suffering of citizens should never become a political bargaining tool.

The poor state of infrastructure in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State is becoming increasingly alarming. For many residents, the absence of good roads has turned everyday movement into a serious challenge, particularly during the rainy season. Erosion has damaged several roads, making transportation difficult and leaving communities struggling to access markets, schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services.

The concerns being expressed by residents deserve urgent attention from the relevant authorities. Roads are not merely physical structures, they are essential to economic growth and the well-being of communities. When roads become impassable, farmers find it difficult to transport their produce, businesses suffer, and residents face unnecessary hardship. The people of Tafawa Balewa should not have to wait endlessly for basic infrastructure that is necessary for their development.

The situation in the healthcare sector is equally concerning. Some communities lack adequate medical centres, while available facilities reportedly face shortages of medical personnel, equipment and other essential resources. This creates additional hardship for residents, especially those who require urgent medical attention. A community’s development cannot be considered complete when its people struggle to access basic healthcare.

This is why I believe it is time to put politics aside and face the realities confronting the people. Politics should not be about defending a system only when it favours us. It should be about accountability, service and improving the lives of citizens. We must stop allowing political differences to overshadow the genuine needs and suffering of our communities.

The time has come for leaders, political actors and citizens alike to stand for truth, consistency and justice, regardless of which direction the political wind is blowing. The people of Tafawa Balewa deserve better roads, functional healthcare facilities and other basic infrastructure that can improve their quality of life.

There is also a need for appropriate government oversight to examine the situation and determine where the challenges lie, whether at the local government or state level and ensure that responsibilities are properly carried out. As a democratic nation, good governance must go beyond political promises and speeches. It must be reflected in the everyday lives of citizens.

Tafawa Balewa is not asking for special treatment. Its people are asking for the basic infrastructure and services they deserve. Their concerns should be heard, investigated and addressed. Development should not be selective, and the suffering of citizens should never become a political bargaining tool.

The relevant authorities must therefore act urgently to rehabilitate damaged roads, address erosion and strengthen healthcare services in Tafawa Balewa. The people have spoken, what they need now is not another promise, but meaningful action.
