China and America - Xi and Trump

US President Donald Trump has disclosed that he wrote to Chinese President Xi Jinping, asking him not to provide weapons to Iran, saying Xi responded by denying the allegation.

In an interview on Fox Business with Maria Bartiromo aired Wednesday, Trump said concerns had been raised over reports of Chinese arms support to Iran.

“I had heard that China’s giving weapons to, I mean — you’re seeing it all over the place — to Iran,” he said.

“And I wrote him a letter asking him not to do that, and he wrote me a letter saying that essentially he’s not doing that.”

Trump’s remarks come ahead of his scheduled trip to China on May 14–15 for talks with Xi, which were delayed from March due to tensions linked to the war involving Iran.

The situation in the Middle East has added pressure to US-China relations, with Beijing maintaining strong economic ties to Iran, particularly in oil imports.

China recently accused the US of “dangerous and irresponsible” conduct over its blockade of Iranian ports, while Xi said Beijing would take on a “constructive role” in efforts to stabilise the region.

Addressing separate reports of a cyberattack targeting the FBI, Trump neither confirmed nor denied the claims but noted the ongoing nature of cyber competition.

“We do it to them. They do it to us,” he said, adding: “China’s China… They’re never easy, but we’re doing great with China.”

He also reiterated his stance, saying he is “the toughest person” on China.
