Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, became visibly emotional on Saturday, breaking into tears as he appealed for forgiveness from anyone he may have offended during his administration.

The governor made the remarks at a meeting of key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the Government House in Maiduguri.

At the same event, party leaders in the state reaffirmed their support for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as a joint ticket for the 2027 general election.

The endorsement motion was moved by APC National Vice Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, and was met with loud approval from party members present.

“Let me also put the motion to a voice vote. Those in support of the joint ticket of Tinubu/Kashim should say ‘Aye’,” Dalori said, drawing a thunderous response of “Aye” from the gathering.

Addressing stakeholders, Zulum—while still emotional—said Nigeria has no better option than the Tinubu/Shettima ticket for a second term. He urged party members to uphold unity and ensure a peaceful election process.

“Power is something that God gives to whom he wishes. No matter how much you dislike a person, if God gives it to him, he will get it,” he said.

He also encouraged stakeholders to remain committed to democratic principles and intensify efforts to mobilize voters in support of the APC.

“Already the party chairman, Hon. Bello Ayuba made this appeal and reemphasized our commitment to work for the success of the Tinubu/Kashim joint ticket in the 2027 general election,” he added.

During the meeting, the governor engaged several party leaders—including his deputy, Umar Kadafur, Senator Mohammed Ndume, and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari—asking if he had treated them fairly over the past seven years. They responded positively, affirming his leadership and contributions.

Borno APC Chairman, Bello Ayuba, noted that Zulum’s developmental achievements have boosted the party’s appeal, attracting supporters from other political parties.

“As we speak, a large number of decampees from other political parties are waiting to be formally accepted into the APC,” he said.
