President Bola Tinubu has tasked his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari, with supervising the APC primaries for National Assembly seats in preparation for the 2027 elections.

The move comes after engagements with members of the Senate and House of Representatives who called for strict adherence to internal democratic processes within the party.

As part of their assignment, the duo will work with APC governors, the National Working Committee (NWC), and leadership of the National Assembly to coordinate the conduct of the primaries across the country.

They are expected to ensure the process remains transparent and orderly, while keeping the President informed through periodic reports.

However, the responsibility for organising the primaries remains with the APC National Secretariat, which will continue to act in accordance with the Electoral Act and party rules.

The supervisory team’s role will centre on oversight, ensuring due process, and resolving conflicts, while the NWC will handle operational aspects such as screening aspirants, issuing guidelines, and announcing results.

Although some political actors have pushed for an expanded supervisory committee to reflect broader interests, Tinubu has declined, expressing concerns that such a move could weaken the party’s institutional framework and affect the credibility of the primaries.
