Peter Obi Meets ADC South East Leaders in Closed-Door Talks in Enugu
ADC South East chairmen meet Peter Obi in Enugu to discuss internal democracy and grassroots mobilisation across the region.
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, held a closed-door meeting on Tuesday with South East state chairmen of the African Democratic Congress in Enugu, in what party officials described as a move to strengthen regional coordination.
Mr Martins Ugwu, head of the ADC media team in the state, said the meeting represented “a calculated show of regional alignment aimed at consolidating regional party structures.”
He noted that it was Obi’s first formal engagement with the newly elected South East chairmen since their emergence.
According to him, the meeting aligns with Obi’s anticipated participation in the party’s upcoming presidential primary and broader efforts to enhance unity, coordinate leadership priorities, and expand grassroots engagement across the region.
“The meeting focused on reinforcing internal party democracy and harmonising state-level operations,” Ugwu said.
Those in attendance included Enugu State chairman-elect Prof. Augustine Akubue, alongside party leaders from Imo, Abia, Anambra, and Ebonyi States.
The engagement is seen as part of ongoing political realignments within opposition circles ahead of future electoral contests.
