The Nigeria Falconets will open their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup campaign against defending powerhouse Spain on Monday in what promises to be one of the standout Group F fixtures.

The match will take place at the Arena Sosnowiec in Poland, with kick-off set for 5:00pm Nigerian time.

Moses Aduku’s side face a Spanish team with a strong record at the tournament. Spain were crowned champions in 2022 and went on to finish second in 2024, while Nigeria are still searching for their first U-20 Women’s World Cup title.

The Falconets have nevertheless established themselves as one of the tournament’s most consistent teams. They have qualified for every edition of the competition and have finished runners-up on two occasions, in 2010 and 2014.

Nigeria also enter Monday’s fixture after a confidence-boosting result in their final preparations. The Falconets defeated tournament hosts Poland 1-0 in a friendly, with Mary Mamudu scoring the winning goal.

Aduku has stressed the significance of the opening game, describing the Spain encounter as a match his team will approach like a cup final.

A positive result could prove crucial for Nigeria, with China PR and New Caledonia also in Group F. A strong opening performance against Spain would give the Falconets an important boost as they look ahead to the rest of the group stage.
