Super Subs Inspire Switzerland to 4-1 Win Over Bosnia-Herzegovina

Johan Manzambi and Ruben Vargas came off the bench to inspire Switzerland to a commanding 4-1 victory against 10-man Bosnia-Herzegovina in their World Cup clash on Thursday in Los Angeles.

For much of the game at SoFi Stadium, Switzerland controlled possession but struggled to break down Bosnia’s resistance in a slow-paced contest.

However, coach Murat Yakin’s triple substitution in the 72nd minute transformed the encounter almost instantly.

Two minutes later, Vargas sent in a dangerous cross that Bosnia failed to clear properly, allowing Manzambi to score with a first-time volley on his very first touch.

Bosnia’s problems worsened when Tarik Muharemovic received a red card for a desperate challenge from behind on Breel Embolo as the striker raced toward goal.

With the numerical advantage, Switzerland took full control.

In the 84th minute, Manzambi combined with Embolo before Vargas calmly finished to make it 2-0.

Vargas then returned the favour six minutes later by setting up Manzambi for his second goal of the match.

Bosnia substitute Ermin Mamhic briefly gave his side hope with a stunning strike from a corner during stoppage time, but Swiss captain Granit Xhaka quickly restored the three-goal cushion from the penalty spot after a foul by Amar Memic.

The result lifted Switzerland to the top of Group B on four points, significantly boosting their chances of progressing to the last 32.

Bosnian supporters turned out in large numbers for the match, creating a vibrant atmosphere and largely overpowering the Swiss fans inside the stadium.

Switzerland had dominated the early stages through the midfield partnership of Xhaka and Remo Freuler, though their attacks often ended with poor deliveries and missed opportunities.

Bosnia slowly settled into the contest, and 40-year-old Edin Dzeko nearly created the opener in the first half with a clever pass across goal for Benjamin Tahirovic, who failed to make contact.

Dan Ndoye later came close for Switzerland with an acrobatic bicycle kick, but goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj reacted well to tip the ball over the bar.

In the end, Switzerland’s late attacking burst proved too much for Bosnia-Herzegovina to handle.
