The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally launched its campaign machinery for the 2027 general elections, with the party setting a target of between three and four million votes for President Bola Tinubu in Lagos.

More than 1,200 members make up the newly inaugurated campaign council, which was unveiled on Friday at the APC Secretariat on Acme Road, Ikeja.

The campaign structure is headed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as chairman, while Lagos Deputy Governor and APC governorship candidate Obafemi Hamzat is deputy chairman. Former Senator Musiliu Obanikoro heads the council as Director-General, with Rasaq Ajala as Deputy Director-General and Adekunle Olayinka as Campaign Secretary.

The inauguration brought together senior APC figures, including former Lagos governors Babatunde Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, APC Lagos Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, Senators Tokunbo Abiru and Wasiu Eshilokun, and former Assembly Speakers Adeleke Mamora and Adeyemi Ikuforiji.

Prince Tajudeen Olusi heads the Governance Advisory Council, while Sanwo-Olu serves as Advisory Council Chairman. Fashola and Ambode are listed as Co-Chairmen, alongside other senior figures including Femi Gbajabiamila, Obasa and Mamora.

Hamzat: ‘We must do three, four million’

Speaking at the event, Hamzat urged party members to take the campaign to the grassroots and present what he described as the achievements of APC administrations to voters.

He highlighted the Tinubu administration’s tax reforms, agricultural and urea production, infrastructure development and efforts to tackle terrorism and kidnapping.

Hamzat said party members should campaign without fear.

“We should be proud of our candidate. Our President has done the right things for this country. We should be very proud.

“We should not be fearful to go and campaign, because the President has stabilised the economy of this country,” he said.

The governorship candidate also pointed to Nigeria’s trade relationship with the United States, which he described as a trade surplus, and linked increased agricultural and urea production to the development.

He also highlighted the Lekki Free Trade Zone and tax reforms while urging members of the National Assembly to continue supporting the administration’s policies.

On voter mobilisation, Hamzat said the party must significantly increase its performance in Lagos.

“We have registered 7.3 million people in Lagos. As a member of our party, we cannot be voting only one million. We must do three, four million people to make sure that we galvanise votes for our President,” he said.

Hamzat also called for support for APC candidates across the presidential, senatorial, House of Representatives, governorship and State Assembly contests.

He said the campaign would be conducted under the slogan “Lagos Forward Together.”

Ojelabi: ‘Man Your Polling Booths’

APC Lagos Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi charged the campaign council to avoid complacency and take the party’s message to communities across the state.

He urged candidates to work with the campaign council and conduct issue-based campaigns in accordance with the Electoral Act.

Ojelabi described the inauguration as a major step in the party’s preparations and unveiled “Operation Man Your Polling Booths” as the campaign’s grassroots mobilisation strategy.

The initiative is aimed at reaching voters across Lagos’ 13,325 polling units.

Obanikoro urges party unity

Campaign Director-General Musiliu Obanikoro appealed to party members to set aside personal differences and work together ahead of the elections.

He highlighted Hamzat’s experience in public service, including his time as a Lagos commissioner, his work at the Federal Ministry of Works, Power and Housing and his tenure as deputy governor.

Obanikoro said the experience would be relevant to Hamzat’s governorship campaign and praised the APC leadership for supporting his candidacy.

Olusi seeks stronger grassroots mobilisation

Representing Governance Advisory Council Chairman Tajudeen Olusi, former Deputy Governor Abiodun Ogunleye called for unity among party members and political stakeholders.

He urged APC leaders and supporters to intensify mobilisation across constituencies and expressed confidence in the campaign structure.

The APC has previously urged its Lagos members to remain united and law-abiding as electioneering activities continue.
