2027 Polls: INEC Displays APC Ticket’s Nomination Documents, Opens Credentials to Public Scrutiny
The Independent National Electoral Commission has displayed the nomination documents, credentials and personal particulars of APC candidates Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the public display of nomination documents submitted by President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for the 2027 presidential election.
According to the commission, the publication of the documents complies with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026, which mandates INEC to make candidates’ particulars available for public inspection within 21 days of submission.
“Form EC9 contains the credentials, personal particulars and affidavits submitted by candidates sponsored by political parties,” the commission said.
Documents on display reveal that Tinubu graduated with honours in Business Administration from Chicago State University in the United States on June 22, 1979.
The records also show he completed his NYSC service in Oyo State between December 1982 and November 1983. His employment history includes Mobil Nigeria Limited from 1983 to 1992, service as Lagos State governor between 1999 and 2007, and his current role with the Federal Government, which began in 2023.
While the form lists “0000” for the years of his primary and secondary education, it identifies his date of birth as March 29, 1952, birthplace as Lagos, residential address in Ikoyi, Lagos, and occupation as politician.
Shettima’s submitted credentials outline his educational journey from primary school through postgraduate studies. He attended Lamisula I Primary School from 1972 to 1978, where he ranked second in a class of 22 pupils.
His WAEC certificate from Government Secondary School, Potiskum, records six credits and passes, including distinctions in Religious Knowledge and Economics. He later earned a Second Class Upper degree in Agriculture from the University of Maiduguri in 1989 and a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan. His NYSC discharge certificate confirms service between October 1989 and October 1990.
INEC reiterated that Nigerians are entitled to request certified true copies of candidates’ nomination forms and accompanying documents, while any claims of false declaration or forgery can be challenged through the courts.
The electoral body further announced that campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled to begin on August 19, with campaigns for governorship and state assembly elections set to commence at a later date under its revised timetable.
