The Nigerian Army has clarified that social media influencer Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, is no longer being held by the military after his recent arrest.

In a statement released on Saturday, Army spokesperson Appolonia Anele said the influencer was earlier detained alongside some soldiers following a social media post that raised concerns about welfare and feeding conditions in the military.

The Army noted that the incident triggered an internal investigation into a potential breach of its Social Media Policy and allegations of misinformation.

It added that initial findings revealed interactions between Chidiebere and the soldiers on issues deemed sensitive to military discipline. Some of the exchanges, according to the Army, were considered capable of inciting discontent and undermining cohesion.

“A situation where civilians cultivate vulnerable personnel towards acts of subversion has far-reaching implications on discipline and national security,” the statement said.

Transfer to Civil Authorities

The military said Chidiebere has since been handed over to appropriate civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution, while the soldiers involved remain under military custody.

Rule of Law Emphasised

The Army reiterated its commitment to lawful procedures and accountability in addressing the situation.

“The Nigerian Army remains committed to the rule of law and will continue to act within the ambits of the law in safeguarding our sovereignty,” it stated.

The development has triggered discussions online around issues of military welfare, free speech, and the boundaries of civilian engagement with security personnel, as investigations continue.
