Jacksonville State University has suspended men’s basketball player Daniel Tobiloba Adegboyega after the 21-year-old Nigerian was arrested in the United States on a first-degree rape charge.

Court documents show that Adegboyega is currently being held at the Calhoun County Jail while awaiting a bond hearing. Jail records further indicate that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged an immigration hold against him.

According to the arrest warrant, the alleged offence took place on Wednesday. Authorities allege that Adegboyega engaged in sexual intercourse with the complainant “by forcible compulsion,” an offence under Alabama law.

The university confirmed the player’s suspension following his arrest.

Adegboyega, who has played under the name Daniel Tobiloba throughout his college basketball career, committed to Jacksonville State in May.

The 7-foot centre previously played the 2025–26 season at California Baptist University after spending two seasons at the University of South Florida. He also signed with Kennesaw State in 2022 after attending Grand View Christian High School in Des Moines, Iowa, although he did not make an appearance for the school.

Over his college career, Adegboyega has featured in 27 games, making five starts and averaging 0.7 points alongside 1.3 rebounds per game.

The charge against Adegboyega is an allegation, and he remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
