Ekiti State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, has described Saturday’s governorship election as one that could rank among the most peaceful and credible in the history of the state.

Speaking after voting at her Atiba/Aafin Ward 1, Polling Unit 003 in Ikere Ekiti, Mrs Afuye applauded voters for their enthusiastic participation and peaceful conduct during the exercise.

She also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) alongside security operatives for ensuring a transparent and orderly electoral process throughout the state.

The June 20 governorship poll is expected to produce the next governor who will oversee the affairs of Ekiti State until 2030.

Reacting to the turnout of voters, Afuye said the large number of residents who came out to cast their ballots reflected growing public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic system.

“You can see for yourselves how people trooped out to participate in this election. Not only trooping out but being ready and anxious to participate in the voting. I am indeed impressed with this conduct of our voters,” she said.

The deputy governor noted that reports from different parts of the state showed similar enthusiasm among voters, adding that the APC’s intensive campaign efforts contributed to the turnout.

She called on political stakeholders to continue obeying electoral regulations and avoid actions capable of disrupting the peaceful process.

“I have to commend the INEC as well and our security agencies. They really prepared for this election. You can see that nobody is being intimidated, and I believe if we continue like this, this election may turn out being the best in Ekiti history,” she said.

Mrs Afuye also expressed confidence in the chances of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, saying the APC candidate’s performance in office had earned him widespread support among the people.

“Governor Oyebanji is not only winning this election, it is going to be by a wide margin,” she added.
