GOVERNOR BAGO

Minna, the Niger State capital, has been placed under a 24-hour curfew following unrest that erupted in parts of the city over the reported deaths of suspected illegal miners in custody.

Governor Umaru Bago announced the restriction, directing residents across the metropolis to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary movements.

The curfew takes effect immediately after Friday’s Jumu’ah prayers and will remain in place until further notice.

Security agencies have been directed to enforce the order while taking steps to safeguard lives and property throughout Minna.

The latest development follows Thursday’s protest and unrest connected to the deaths of suspected illegal miners who reportedly died while detained by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The incident heightened tensions in the state capital, leading the government to introduce the curfew as authorities seek to contain the situation and restore normalcy.

The state government appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies during the period of the restriction.

Further updates are expected from the government as authorities assess the situation and work to maintain peace across the metropolis.
