Washington and Tehran are working to get technical discussions back on track as Steve Witkoff heads to Switzerland for talks.

US envoy Steve Witkoff has travelled to Switzerland for diplomatic talks, media reports said Friday, after scheduled negotiations between the United States and Iran were postponed.

According to Axios, which cited a US official, Witkoff departed for Switzerland on Friday as efforts continue to revive technical discussions connected to a previous peace deal between Washington and Tehran.

CNN reported that the United States and Iran are attempting to get the talks “back on track” following delays in the negotiation process.

Trump administration envoy Jared Kushner was also expected to be involved in the discussions, with CNN reporting that he would travel to Switzerland, while Axios claimed he had already arrived.

There was no immediate confirmation on whether Iranian officials would participate in direct meetings with Witkoff.

Vice President JD Vance had earlier been expected to join the diplomatic trip but later postponed his visit, according to a White House announcement on Thursday evening.

The negotiations were designed to build on a peace agreement aimed at ending the ongoing Middle East conflict and reaching a broader long-term resolution.

Officials have yet to announce a new date for the postponed talks.

The war erupted on February 28 after joint US-Israeli strikes reportedly killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
