176 Abducted Kwara Residents Regain Freedom After Six Months in Captivity -By Musa Ameerah Abdullahi
The release of the abductees followed the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Nigerian security agencies, and the collaborative efforts of the Kwara State and Federal Governments.
A total of 176 residents of Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have regained their freedom after spending about six months in captivity following their abduction by armed bandits earlier this year.
The victims were abducted on February 3, 2026, during an attack on the community and were released on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, following coordinated security efforts involving federal and state authorities.
The development has sparked celebrations across Kaiama Local Government Area as families and residents welcomed the news of the victims’ release.
Speaking on the development, Salihu Salim, son of the Village Head of Woro Community, disclosed that the rescued victims are currently receiving care at the Nigerian Army Barracks in Kainji, Bussa. He added that they are expected to be moved to either Abuja or Ilorin on Thursday for proper medical evaluation and treatment.

Leaders of the Kaiama Development Association and families of the victims expressed gratitude to Allah for the successful rescue and appreciated President Tinubu and the security agencies for their efforts in securing the victims’ freedom.
They also appealed to the government to strengthen security in border communities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Government urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to combat insecurity across the state.
